Mrs. Bobbie Thomas’ unwavering dedication to Salem Gilfield, serving as the Missionary Society President for many years, is a shining example for us all. Her active involvement in numerous church ministries and her passion for music, where she often took the spotlight as a soloist in the choir, truly made her an invaluable asset to our community.
Mrs. Thomas submitted the article below:
Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ says: (18) All power is given unto me in Heaven and earth. (19) Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Ghost: (20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always even into the end of the world. Amen (Matthew 28: 18-20). These scriptures typify our service to God.
Our mission is to serve by spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. The scripture says to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind and our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:37). When we love our neighbors as the Lord commands us to love, we will want others to be saved, to have Jesus in their lives, food when they are hungry, and clothes on their backs.
“Love is a many splendid thing.” Our second mission of love is to serve one another. Matthew 25:40 says, “For whatever you did for the least of these my brothers, you did it for me.” Let others see Jesus in you. This is the way to show the love of Jesus every day – every way.
Remember the powerful saying, “Charity begins at home and spreads abroad?” Our mission work can start right where we are and spread all over the world. I’m excited to share my passion for mission work. As our mission song boldly declares, “This is my mission. This is my prayer—spreading the good news everywhere.” Amen.
WORLD MISSIONS
Rev. James T. Freeman (1909-2008) World Missionary
We support “World Missions” through the James T. Freeman Scholarship and Missions Banquet, and by supporting missionaries, who exemplifies the work of Rev. Freeman and others who traveled throughout America and foreign countries spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.
Tabs for Kids
Salem Gilfield saves aluminum can tabs. These tabs will be used to exchange for money being raised by the clubs for “Kids With Cancer”. Please join us in saving your aluminum can tabs during the week and bring them with you to church on Sundays. If you would like t to participate in this worthwhile Missions endeavor, please contact the church or send your tabs to Salem Gilfield by a member.
The Mid-South Food Bank
The Food Bank is in need of donations. The shelves are practically empty. Please bring can goods and staples for the Food Bank. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
The Memphis Union Mission
Every year, we support The Memphis Union Mission by collecting and distributing various goods to support this organization in whatever is needed. Last year, we collected and distributed Men socks. If you are interested in participating, please contact the church.
LeMoyne-Owen College
As part of The Progressive National Baptist Convention (pnbc.org), Salem Gilfield, along with other Progressive Baptist Churches in Memphis, are donors and annually support LeMoyne-Owen College.
